Is a Powertrain Warranty Different from a Bumper-to-Bumper One?

Warranties prove helpful to vehicle owners who wish to save money on repairs. Anything covered under a manufacturer's warranty won't cost the owner anything. Not all warranties, however, are identical. A powertrain warranty, for example, isn't the same thing as a bumper-to-bumper warranty.

Anything that powers a vehicle gets covered under a powertrain warranty. So, if gears prematurely wear down in the transmission or an engine part is defective, the powertrain warranty likely comes in to cover costs. Don't expect this warranty to cover engine or transmission fluid, though. Anything expected to wear out is the owner's responsibility.

With a bumper-to-bumper warranty, a great deal more is covered beyond just the powertrain components. Hence, the other name for a bumper-to-bumper warranty is a "comprehensive warranty." Not everything is covered under bumper-to-bumper plans. Read the coverage exclusions to know what is left out.
