The Best Way to Safely Test a Car Battery

In order to get an accurate reading as to the power left in your car battery, you will need to use a voltmeter. This simple device is easy to operate, and you will need only heavy-duty gloves, protective glasses, and a wire brush.

Once the car engine is not running, open the hood and pay closer attention to those battery terminals. Use the wire brush to clear away any corrosion on the battery terminals. The voltmeter has a black and red wire. The red wire is attached to the positive battery terminal first, then the black to the negative side.

Once the voltmeter is on, it will tell you if the battery is still holding a charge at 12.4 or higher. You should be very concerned if the number is at 12.2 or less.

If your car battery shows signs of trouble, bring the car to Ron Marhofer Mitsubishi before you wind up stranded.
